GRACE PLACE FAMILY LITERACY MODEL®

PROGRAM
DESIGN

The nationally recognized Grace Place Family Literacy Model®  pairs early childhood education services delivered to preschool students (from infants to 5 years old) with parenting and literacy education services delivered to their parents, most frequently their mothers.

Our model empowers parents to build a culture of education in each of their homes, establishing a base of support for kindergarten preparation and continued academic success for both child and parent.

ALIGNMENT OF THE FOUR PILLARS OF FAMILY LITERACY

One factor that has been instrumental in our success is the integration and alignment of the Four Pillars of Family Literacy. The most effective family literacy programs integrate parent education, Parent and Child Together Time®, early childhood education, and adult education (Askov, 2002). Research has shown that adults who have a higher level of education tend to not only become productive citizens with enhanced social and economic capacity in a society (Bowen,1997), but their children are more likely to be successful in school (Woessmann, 2004). Literate parents are better able to support the learning of their children (Sheridan, Knoche, Edwards, Bovaird, & Kupzyk, 2010).
